START ART TV SERIES
MISSION STATEMENT

Start Art’s mission is to draw the art minded into a new or expanded awareness of the visual arts through television.
Start Art endeavors to engage art students and the community in the process of realizing their own creativity.
Beyond fostering appreciation of major works of art, one of the primary concerns is to open eyes and minds to the richness of the visual arts as unique forms of human communication.
Start Art was created and designed to help art students, professional artists and the community build on an informed foundation for individual understanding and enjoyment of art and individual creative self-expression supported by:

  1. Clear organization structure
  2. Straight forward basic art instruction to students engendering their personal refinement
  3. High quality creative self-confidence for students, emerging artists and community participants

Start Art grew out of a desire to introduce the community through an engaging visual telecommunication experience to others who came to know “The Artist Within,” whether they are scholarly, at risk, have learning disabilities, have foster care or Juvenile justice system backgrounds, difficulty with social issues, LGBTQ, or   are interested in alternative lifestyles. The production of a series of 12 Start Art educational television shows will serve as an example of the Oakland, Alameda County and the San Francisco Bay Area’s combined efforts to give exposure to the fine arts of diverse cultures, ethnic creative styles and visually document “The Artist Within” being expressed.
There is a need to archive a fine arts documentary of local Oakland and San Francisco Bay Area artists of color and non-color who are emerging artists, art students, and our national and international artists.
The making and existence of this Start Art education television series as a non-profit art TV series focuses on the rich creative heritages.
Inspirations from multiple cultures will be a strong foundation for the City of Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area’s non-profit art communities. Broadcast television is the most powerful, almost inescapable means of mass communication.
Television, literally “Vision From Afar” is the electronic transmission of still and moving images and sound by means of cable or wireless broadcast and is perfectly suited to enhance and foster creativity in the fine arts.
Television and film productions can make the viewer’s feel they are actually participating in events as they occur. No other medium is capable of engaging humans so completely.
This experience is vital and essential to the promotion of the visual arts.
The creative ways in which television is used and can be used to expose “The Artist Within” to our communities through the visual perception of color, shapes, line, textures from diverse cultures and ethnic inspirations has shaped attitudes and creative behavior around the world.
